Back in 1976, while touring London’s pub circuit, Charlie and her band crossed paths with a young “DP Costello.” Among the lo-fi cassettes she squirrelled away was Mercury Wings – a track Elvis never recorded. Nearly 50 years on, Charlie has given the song its long-awaited debut with his blessing, in a vibrant new arrangement.
Alongside it sit two brand-new originals: Overdrawn at the Sleep Bank, a wry yet poignant meditation on sleepless nights, and Slow Reveal, written with Michele Stodart (The Magic Numbers), which explores the gradual, sometimes painful ways we come to recognise ourselves.
